Šakota began his professional career in the Greek League in 2003 with
Panathinaikos BC . He played with Panathinaikos from 2003-2007 and with the club he won several championships, including: 4 Greek Championships in the years 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007, 3 Greek Cups in the years 2005, 2006, and 2007, theEuroleague Championship in 2007, and theTriple Crown in Basketball Championship in the year 2007.In 2007, Šakota left Panathinaikos and joined the Greek club
Panionios BC . During the 2007-08 season in the Greek League, he was instrumental in helping Panionios to qualify for a place in the next year'sEuroleague 2008-09 season, the first time in 12 years that Panionios had qualified for the top European basketball league. After one year with Panionios, Šakota returned back to Panathinaikos.Šakota was also selected to the All-World Team Roster at the 2005
