He was formerly Deputy Commander of the Moscow Military District for Combat Training and in August 2002 he was made First Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Internal Troops. [Scott and Scott, Russian Military Directory 2004, p.162, 239]

He is married. Two children, one grandaughter.
