He was the inventor of a new genre of comic theatre, theastracanada , the most celebrated example of which is his own "La venganza de Don Mendo" ('Don Mendo's Revenge', 1918), a satire of the works ofPedro Calderón de la Barca .He had a fruitful collaboration with
Pedro Pérez Fernández ("Los extremeños se tocan", 1927).A Nationalist sympathiser, he was executed early in the
Spanish Civil War by Republican soldiers in the mass shootings atParacuellos de Jarama .External links
