Earl Ligonier was a title in the
Peerage of Great Britain that was created on19 July 1776 for Edward Ligonier, 2nd Viscount Ligonier. He had succeeded as Viscount Ligonier on28 April 1770 . The viscountcy and earldom became extinct on his death on14 June 1781 .John Ligonier, a
Field Marshal andMember of Parliament , had been created Viscount Ligonier on31 December 1757 and again on20 May 1762 , both in thePeerage of Ireland . On27 April 1763 he was created Baron Ligonier, in thePeerage of Great Britain , and Earl Ligonier (also in thePeerage of the United Kingdom ) on10 September 1766 .
