website_name =The John Bramston School is the larger of two
Comprehensive schools serving the town ofWitham in Essex, England. Built in 1937, it expanded rapidly in the early 1970s and now has approximately 1100 mixed students, aged from 11 to 18.The school offers a broad curriculum with extensive teaching facilities for students and staff. Situated adjacent to
Bramston Sports Centre , students also enjoy year round access to the Swimming Pools and other sports facilities there. In October 2006 the 'Overall effectiveness of the school' was graded 4 by Ofsted, meaning 'Inadequate' and as a result the school was put under Special Measures. A new head, Mike O'Sullivan was appointed Easter 2007 after the sacking of longstanding former head Ted Rowley. Any further research carried out by the reader on this school, including viewing the school's own very comprehensive website, should be done in the light of the most recent Ofsted report, and the reports from interim inspections. With strong leadership and a change in approach the situation could be turned around very quickly. Other suggested sources of information include local press (Braintree and Witham Times, Essex Chronicle) and Essex County Council.
