James Prosek

James Prosek

James Prosek (born May 23, 1975) is an American writer and illustrator. He is most well-known for his illustrations of North American trout and other fish. Born in Stamford, Connecticut, he is a graduate of Yale University.

Prosek published his first book in 1996 while studying at Yale. "Trout: An Illustrated History" included watercolors of seventy species, subspecies, and strains of trout in North America. His work has been featured in exhibitions at the Gerald Peters Gallery in New York City, the Westport Arts Center in Connecticut, and the Dumbo Arts Center in Brooklyn.

In 2003, Prosek won the Peabody Award for his documentary on seventeenth-century author and fisherman Izaak Walton and his book "The Complete Angler". Prosek is also a fellow to the Vermont Studio Center, and a visiting artist for the Yale Summer School of Art. He also just recently wrote the novel "The Day My Mother Left"
