- Powder Hulk Bay (New South Wales)
Powder Hulk Bay in
Sydney Australia . is an inlet close to Seaforth, it was the favoured Government choice for the suggested mooring of thepowder hulks containingexplosives . By December 1882 the floating magazines Pride of England and Behring together with the guardship Alacrity, had been established in what is now called Powder Hulk Bay, Seaforth, Middle Harbour. As the population of Manly increased in the early 1900s, particularly around Seaforth, complaints multiplied concerning the safety of having explosives moored in such close proximity to residents. Following a committee recommendation in October 1906 that Bantry Bay would be a suitable place to buildexplosives magazines on land, to replace the floating magazines then moored in Powder Hulk Bay, the NSW Government issued a proclamation on31 December 1906 resuming alienated land at Bantry Bay.References
