Joseph A. Gochinski

Joseph A. Gochinski ("Joe Gochinski") is an American Democratic politician from Greenfield, Massachusetts. In November 2006 he was elected to the position of Register of Deeds of Franklin County, Massachusetts.

He has served in various capacities, including as Precinct 2 Town Councilor under two forms of government.

Gochinski is best known on the local scene for his work as a Town Councilor and Charter Commission member. Under the new charter adopted by Greenfield voters, the number of council seats per precinct declined from three to one. Gochinski was handily elected to a term on the new council, fending off a challenge from James Gonsalves. He allowed his term to expire in June 2006 without seeking reelection.Gochinski is currently employed by the University of Massachusetts. He also hosts the public-access TV show "The Franklin County Democrat", has served as President of the Greenfield Community Television Board of Directors, has served on the Board at the local American Red Cross, and is a regional and state level Democratic Party involvee, serving as member of the Franklin County Democratic Caucus, chair of the Greenfield Town Committee, and four times as a delegate to the state Democratic convention.

Gochinski ran for Register of Deeds in Franklin County in 2006; he was challenged by incumbent H. Peter Wood for the Democratic nomination. Wood staged a write-in campaign because he switched parties from Republican to Democrat in the summer of 2005. Gochinski won the Democratic primary by 550 votes, and then defeated Republican Isaac Mass in the general election in November 2006.
