website_name = www.glyn.surrey.sch.ukGlyn Technology School is a single sex comprehensive secondary school that teaches boys from the ages of 11-18. It is situated in the borough of
Epsom and Ewell , in the outlying suburbs ofLondon .History
It started as Glyn Grammar School for Boys, becoming comprehensive in 1985.
In 2003 construction of the a new building started at the school and was officially opened in 2005 by the
Duke of Kent . This building was named the Turner Wing after the then current headteacher Mr Turner. He retired in 2006 after being Headmaster for 20 years. Glyn's sixth headteacher is Jon Chaloner who joined in September 2006, from Easthampsted Park School in Bracknell. At the same time an Old Boy, Douglas French, was appointed Chairman of the Governors.Glyn's home sporting fixtures are played at Priest Hill on the Reigate Road.
Houses
There are seven houses at Glyn Technology School, which all have their own colour stripes on the students ties. They are: Abbey; Bourne; Carew; Derby; Merton; St.Benet and Tudor. Which have the colours light blue, black, red, green, blue, purple and yellow respectively. Each house in Glyn competes in house competitions such as basketball, football, rugby, table tennis, etc.
Controversy
The school came to national notice in 2002 as a test of government exclusion policy. Two boys expelled for making death threats to a teacher were ordered to be re-instated by an independent appeals panel. After a refusal by other teachers to teach the boys and an intervention by the then
Secretary of State for Education ,Estelle Morris , the boys were found places at other schools. [cite news
