Betty Limpany was one of the last women in
Devonto be executedduring the 18th Century. She was accused of arsonby burning down her Master's house. Her trial was swift and she was hanged on the 5th April 1799. She was only 17 years old.
1997Diamond 7 Television in Leicesterscreened a film based on the famous case. It was filmed on location in Belgrave Hall, Leicester, and Kentisbere Devon, and produced by Wide Angle Productions.
* It is rumoured that Betty Limpany was pregnant with her Master's baby when she was hung. Although this has never been proved.
