Glenurquhart

Glenurquhart

Glenurquhart (Scottish Gaelic: Gleann Urchardain) is a glen running to the west of village of Drumnadrochit in the Highland council area of Scotland, essentially from Loch Ness at Urquhart Bay in the east to Corrimony and beyond in the west. The River Enrick runs along its length, passing through Loch Meiklie.

The village of Balnain is situated about 5 miles up the glen.

The hillsides on the south side of the glen are mainly used for commercial forestry, managed by the Forestry Commission. The slopes on the opposite side are covered with a mixture of deciduous woodland (mainly birch), farmland and some areas of commercial forestry.

It used to be part of the lands of the Grants of Glenmorison, with the lands of the Frasers to the north.

Of particular note is the Chambered Cairn at Corrimony, part of the Clava group of cairns.

The local shinty team is called Glenurquhart Shinty Club.
