It lies in the
Oberaargau in theSwiss Plateau on the northeast boundary of the district of Aarwangen and the canton of Bern (next to the canton ofAargau ).It includes the following villages:

*SchwendiPopulation
The municipality is quickly losing population, due to the difficulties in the agricultural sector, the basis of the local economy (66% of local businesses are farms).
Economy and transport
Gondiswil lies on the
Wolhusen –Huttwil railway and has a station.In 1894 the
Schieferkohle railway was founded. From 1918-1919, limitedcoal mining occurred, but the beds were too small, and the mine collapsed, leaving a small lake. InWorld War II , coal was again mined from the area.Further reading
