Post Horn Gallop

Post Horn Gallop

The Post Horn Gallop is the tune that Leicester City Football Club run out at the Walkers Stadium on matchday. Leicester City are now the only team to run out to it and is very successful.

The post horn is played by Henry Shipley of Syston, Leicestershire, now in his 80s, who has played at matches since 1941. He still plays the horn given to him as a boy, and it is most definitely not "a trumpet".

A new jazzed up version has been made to interest younger fans that like the new version better than the older version played by the Symphony Orchestra. The new version is longer than the older version so the club play it all out and have released it on a CD.

Peterborough United Football Club used to run out to it.

Colchester United Football Club have also run out to The Post Horn Gallop . The tune originated when goalkeeper Ronnie Dunn, a former Bugler in the Army, played it as the rest of the team took to the field. It was first played at Layer Road for the visit of Bath City in a Southern League clash on 2nd September 1937 and has been the regular tune ever since then. Though it was not heard at the ground during the last ten years of so, it has made a comeback in Layer Road's final season.
