Bisbenzimide is an organic compound used as a fluorescent stain for DNA in molecular biology applications. It is an intercalating agent between Adenine-Thymine base pairs.

application

Bisbenzimide tends to insert into A-T rich regions of DNA. Binding with bisbenzimide can decrease the density of DNA. So, if we mix DNA samples with bisbenzimide, then doing a CsCl gradient centrofuation, we can separate DNA according to their AT percentage.
