Affiliations FOBISSEA, HMC, IAPS Website jis.edu.bn Jerudong International School (JIS), established in 1997, is a private international school located in Jerudong, close to Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital city of Brunei. The school sits on a single campus in Jerudong that occupies almost 300 acres (1.2 km2). It is a co-educational institution that follows the British Education System which awards its students A-Level and GCSE qualifications. The school is a member of the Federation of British International Schools in South-East Asia (FOBISSEA) and the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS).
Jerudong International School is a day and boarding school providing education for both, girls and boys, between the ages of 2 and 18 years. It is governed by a Board of Directors whose members include representatives from the Brunei Investment Agency (BIA) and the Bruneian Ministry of Education.
Andrew Taylor is currently Acting Principal, following the departure of John Price to Haileybury Almaty, Kazakhstan. Andrew Fowler-Watt, currently Principal of The British School in Colombo, Sri Lanka, has been appointed Principal from September 2011 [1]

After-School Activities (ASAs) are observed everyday so a typical student would only leave school at around 5.00 PM.
Accreditation and Subjects
JIS is accredited by AQA, Edexcel, CIE and OCR to award its students GCSE and A-Level examination.
Students undertaking the GCSE examinations are offered a choice of Accounting, Art, Business Studies, Design & Technology, Drama, Economics, English Literature, Food Technology, Geography, ICT, Music and Statistics, in addition to the mandatory subjects of Mathematics, English and the Sciences which are offered as a triple award. Students are required to take a minimum of 10 subjects in GCSEs.
A-Level students are offered Media Studies, Further Mathematics, Music Technology and Psychology in addition to the subjects offered at GCSE. Students are also given a choice of Biology, Chemistry and Physics as singular subjects. A-Level students are required to undertake 4 subjects at the start of their A-Level as well as doing the IELTS or English Language to AS-Level.
JIS is currently going through the accreditation process for the International Baccalaureate (IB), and intends to offer this to students in year 12 starting in August 2011.
Language courses, for either A-Level and GCSE, can be taken up by students at the start of the academic year include Bahasa Malayu (O-Level and Foreign Language), French, Spanish, Mandarin and Urdu as well as Ugama classes for Muslim students. Enrollment in the accredited language courses usually depend on the level of proficiency exhibited by the students although classes for complete beginners are also available.
After School Activities
After School Activities(ASAs), which are observed everyday after school, play an important role in the JIS education system. JIS offers a wide range of activities that are divided into general categories such as sport, music, leisure and academic. As well as providing students such a variety in ASAs, JIS also conducts the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh's Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards.

JIS Orchestra
The JIS orchestra is one of the few orchestras in Brunei that have been privileged to perform for many international dignitaries such as HRH Crown Prince Al-Mutadee Billah, Prince Charles of Wales and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. As an expression of appreciation after a private concert, HRH Prince Al-Mutadee Billah gave the JIS Orchestra the special Brunei model of the valuable Fazioli concert grand piano which is produced with inlays of precious stones, mother of pearl and exotic woods.
Higher Education Policy
The school aims to produce students that go on to the Top 25 universities worldwide and so, actively encourages and supports students in competing for places at these universities. Many past students have won such places and are currently studying at Cambridge University, Cornell University, Columbia University, Oxford University, Harvard University, LSE, Imperial College London, King's College London, University of Manchester, University College London, National University of Singapore, Australian National University and Melbourne University (each ranked in the top 25 universities worldwide by a recent Times Higher Education Supplement survey).
