- Mossy (Farthing Wood)
-
Mossy is a fictional character from the animated children's television series The Animals of Farthing Wood based upon the books of the same name by author Colin Dann. Mossy was the son of Mole and pretended to be him when the other animals were unaware of Mole passing on, this particularly helped Badger (who had been the best friend of Mole) when he was dying of old age.
In series three, Mossy is frequently seen as the subject of a game played by Toad and his new rat friend, Spike. Other animals are often seen to win this game, e.g. Ranger, but neither Toad nor Spike ever appear to. He also accidentally digs into the rat's headquarters during a thunderstorm, but survives the encounter. Mossy also strikes up a friendship with the badger Hurkel, similar to the relationship between his father and Badger, although Hurkel is often irritated by Mossy, mostly due to his habit of riding around on his back, like he used to with Badger.
In the books however, Mossy was killed by the rats who had invaded White Deer Park, being the first casualty in the final battle for the park. Badger later found his body and was finally able to accept the loss of his friend.
