Jean-Marie Guéhenno (born
30 October 1949 inParis ) is a French diplomat. He currently serves as theUnited Nations ' Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations. Guéhenno was appointed to the position in 2000.Before working at the United Nations, Guéhenno was a member of the
Cour des Comptes in Paris. He has also worked in international relations and diplomacy, chairing theInstitut des hautes études de défense nationale from 1998 to 2000 and working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in France before he joined the UN.Guéhenno is a Knight of the "
Légion d'honneur " and Commander of the "Bundesverdienstkreuz ". He attended theÉcole Normale Supérieure , before going to theÉcole Normale d'Administration .He is married and has one daughter.Bibliography
