Joan Bray

Joan Bray

Joan Bray (born September 16, 1945), is a former teacher, journalist, and union leader, and a sitting Democratic member of the Missouri State Senate. She resides with her husband, Carl Hoagland, in St. Louis, Missouri. She has two children, Noel and Kolby.

She was born in Lubbock, Texas, and graduated from Southwestern University with a B.A. in English, and from University of Massachusetts with a C.A.G.S.. She has previously been a teacher in Colorado and Massachusetts. She has also been a journalist with the San Antonio Express-News and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. She has also served as vice-president of Local 49 of the Newspaper Guild.

She was first elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 1992, and served in that body through 2002, when she was elected to the Missouri State Senate.

She serves on the following committees:
*Appropriations
*Commerce, Energy and the Environment
*Rules, Joint Rules, Resolutions and Ethics
*Transportation
*Ways and Means.
