William Henry Harries, (
January 15 ,1843 –July 23 ,1921 ), was a Representative fromMinnesota ; born near Dayton, Montgomery County,Ohio ; moved toLa Crosse, Wisconsin ; enlisted as a private in Company B,Second Regiment, Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry ,April 18 ,1861 ; commissioned captain of Company F,Third Regiment, United States Veteran Volunteers ,General Hancock ’s corps,December 21 ,1864 ; honorably dischargedApril 17 ,1866 ; was graduated from the law school of theUniversity of Michigan atAnn Arbor in 1868; was admitted to the bar in 1868, and commenced practice inHokah, Minnesota ; afterwards practiced in Caledonia, Houston County,Minnesota ; prosecuting attorney of Houston County 1874 – 1878; elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-second Congress (March 4 ,1891 –March 3 ,1893 ); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1892 to the Fifty-third Congress; appointed by PresidentGrover Cleveland as collector of internal revenue for Minnesota and served from 1894 to 1898, residing inSt. Paul, Minnesota ; resumed the practice of his profession in Caledonia in 1898; department commander of the Minnesota department of theGrand Army of the Republic in 1901; member of the board of trustees of the Minnesota Soldiers’ Home in 1903, secretary of the board 1907 – 1911, and commandant of the home 1911 – 1918; died inSeattle, Washington ; interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia, Minnesota.
