Athens Independent School District

Athens Independent School District is a public school district based in Athens, Texas (USA).

The district serves central Henderson County and small portions of southern Van Zandt and northern Anderson counties.

School Board Vote Over R.C. Fisher:The AISD School Board has decided to tear down the R.C. Fisher Campus. This decision is based on the thought of Athens Middle School yielding grades 6-8. Athens Independent School District was originally going to keep the R.C. Fisher Campus to transfer the campus into a campus for the pre-kindergarteners. This decision was eventually overturned and the current decision was decided. Now, R.C. Fisher will eventually be torn down and Athens Middle School will become a campus for grades 6-8.

Athens Middle School Students' Petition:The 2007-2008 semester students of Athens Middle School eventually organized a petition. The petition was created by a few students who attended Athens Middle School. The petition was a battle to say that the students did not want to end up in portable classrooms the following year because of the upcoming 6th and 7th graders. The students said that the school board had to listen to them because of their petition. Unfortunately, the petition did not work and the students and their petition were ignored.
