- Eman Ghoneim
Dr. Eman Ghoneim ( _ar. إيمان غنيم) is an experienced Egyptian
geomorphologist with a primary focus on the application ofGeographical Information Systems (GIS ),Remote Sensing and the use ofHydrologic modeling inFlash flood hazard andGroundwater exploration in arid environments.During her research, she uses satellite images for both detecting
subsurface groundwater accumulation and land / submarine springs using thethermal ASTER andMODIS data. She worked in a project that uses both the GIS and Hydrologic model for groundwater exploration in the northernUnited Arab Emirates , U.S. and theRed Sea area in Egypt.She received her
PhD in 2002 from the School of Geography,University of Southampton ,United Kingdom . She is also a lecturer in the Geography Department, atTanta University , Egypt.Dr. Ghoneim joined the
Boston University Center for Remote Sensing in the beginning of 2003. In 2006 March 2006 she joined Dr.Farouk El-Baz in a research that resulted in discovering theKebira Crater , a possibleimpact crater (astrobleme ) in theSahara . In 2007, while she was investigating different space data, she has discovered an ancient Mega-Lake (30,750 km²) buried beneath the sand of the Great Sahara in the Northern Darfur region, Sudan.
