Watlington railway station, Oxfordshire

Watlington railway station, Oxfordshire

:distinguish|Watlington (Norfolk) railway station

Watlington railway station in Oxfordshire was the terminus of the Watlington and Princes Risborough Railway and opened in 1872. The original plan envisaged a continuation to Cholsey on the Great Western Railway but due to financial difficulties this was never to be. This left a branch from Cholsey to Wallingford, with a gap between there and Watlington. The station was also not in Watlington itself, but in Pyrton about a mile from centre of Watlington.

The branch was closed to passengers in 1957 and to goods in 1961.

The line was always single track. The station facilities included a stone-built passenger building, a goods shed, and locomotive and carriage sheds. Remains of the buildings exist, heavily overgrown, on private land.

Other stations

Other stations on the line include:
* Princes Risborough railway station - junction
* Chinnor railway station
