Jami Floyd is a former
lawyer and current "Court TV " news anchor and legal analyst. Floyd joined "Court TV" in February 2005. She is currently the anchor of her own daily program, "Jami Floyd: Best Defense" from 11AM-1PM on weekdays. Prior to coming to "Court TV", Floyd worked as an anchor and correspondent at the network from 1996 to 1998, primarily covering major national news stories, including theO.J. Simpson murder trial and theOklahoma City bombing trials, as well as several landmark cases pertaining the tobacco industry.Legal career
Jami Floyd received her political science degree from
Binghamton University in 1986. She graduated with honors from theBoalt Hall School of Law at theUniversity of California, Berkeley . She first served as alaw clerk for theCalifornia Supreme Court before joining the law firm ofMorrison & Foerster , where she was involved with both the practices of civil and criminal law. Floyd joined the Office of the San Francisco Public Defender, where she continued her work as a trial attorney, in 1993. Floyd holds aB.A. inpolitical science fromBinghamton University . Aside from her JD, Floyd also holds aMaster of Laws degree fromStanford Law School , where she also served as a teaching fellow. Following her duties at the White House, Floyd returned to San Francisco and segued into television broadcasting as a legal analyst at
KPIX-TV . In 1995, she joined theCBS newsmagazine, "Day & Date", again serving as a legal analyst.Before returning to "Court TV" in 2005, Floyd was a correspondent for
ABC News , contributing to breaking news reports, as well as long-form coverage for newsmagazines and Nightline. She also served as co-anchor on "World News Now " and as an anchor on "Early Morning News". While at the network, she covered stories including the 1998Capitol Hill shooting and several landmarkSupreme Court cases. Floyd also contributed to coverage of the disputed 2000 presidential election, reported fromGround Zero in the days and weeks following theSeptember 11, 2001 attacks on theWorld Trade Center , and filed reports on theanthrax attacks that same year.From 1999 to 2001, Floyd served in the ABC News Law & Justice Unit. Jami Floyd has twice been awarded both the
CINE Golden Eagle Award and the U.S. International Film & Video Festival Gold Camera Award. Among her other awards, Floyd received the PPFA Maggie Award, and the NABJ Salute to Excellence. She has twice been nominated for a News and Documentary Emmy Award, along with receiving both a Edward R. Murrow Award and Unity Award from theRadio and Television News Directors Association . Floyd won a Gracie for Outstanding Program Host in June 2007 from the American Women in Radio and Television.References
