William Foster Abbott (nicknames Billy & Liam) is a fictional character in the American soap opera "The Young and the Restless". He was first portrayed by a few child actors. David Tom was the first adult contract actor to play the role from June 1999 to August 15, 2002, and the actor won an Emmy Award for the role in 2000. Ryan Brown took over the role on December 26, 2002, but only stayed until July 16, 2003. The third actor portrayed the role for the shortest time: Scott Seymour played it from August 15 to November 3, 2006. Billy Miller took over the role on September 19, 2008.

Character's background

Billy is the son of Jill Foster Abbott (Jess Walton) and the late John Abbott (Jerry Douglas).

In 1999, a teenaged Billy Abbott returns to Genoa City from boarding school and soon becomes romantically involved with Mackenzie Browning (then played by Ashley Bashioum, later Kelly Kruger and Rachel Kimsey). Over the next few years, Billy and Mac's romance is rocky, but they always manage to sort through their differences.

In 2003, Billy and Mac marry, but as the two are about to consummate their relationship, they are devastated by news that they are in fact cousins, following the revelation that Mac's grandmother, Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper), and Jill are mother and daughter. The two leave Genoa City and go their separate ways.

Billy returns to Genoa City in August 2006 for John's funeral. He soon begins to flirt with waitress Jana Hawkes (Emily O'Brien), making Jana's boyfriend Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart) jealous. When it is revealed that Billy has developed an internet gambling problem, Katherine has him relocated to Hong Kong.

Billy makes a surprising return at Daniel Romalotti's (Michael Graziadei) art showing in September 2008, when it is revealed that Daniel's ex-girlfriend Amber Moore's (Adrienne Frantz) new boyfriend "Liam" is actually Billy. Billy teams up with his niece Colleen (Tammin Sursok), who is now dating Daniel, to ensure that Daniel and Amber stay apart.

Billy is the father of Chloe Mitchell's unborn child because the test had shown that Cane is 'possibly' the father of the baby. And that in early october Chloe told her child that she waited in NYC just for Billy to get pregnant with the child, but never expected to fall for Billy.

Billy was disappointed to hear that his half brother Cane (Daniel Goddard) got a CEO position at Jabot before him and he confronted Jill about it, but she just brushed it off as an emergency decision and promised that Billy would get his spot at Jabot too. Billy teamed up with Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) to take over Jabot and planned to be the inside mole. He recently started suspecting that Jack's silent partner could be his father's ex Gloria Bardwell (Judith Chapman).
