Casoli is a comune and town in the Province of Chieti in the Abruzzo region of Italy: it is situated on a foothill of the Majella mountain, at the base of which runs the Aventino River, tributary of the Sangro. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 5,901 and an area of 66 km².All demographics and other statistics: Italian statistical institute Istat.]

History

It was the ancient Cluviae, a city of the Caraceni: his territory was most probably conquered by Lombards in the 6th century.

The medieval name "castri de Casule" was first recorded in 878 AD in the "Memoriatorium abbatis Berthari", a manuscript conserved in the Abbey of Monte Cassino.
