Gergely Gyertyános

Gergely Gyertyános (born March 30, 1983 in Budapest) is a Hungarian flatwater canoer and current (2005) world champion.

He won his first major medal as a senior at the 2004 European Championships in Poznań, Poland, partnering with Balázs Babella to win a bronze medal in the K2 kayak 200m final.

In 2005 he replaced Gergely Boros in Hungary's four-man (K4) 200m crew. At the European Championships in Poznań, the Hungarians retained their title, earning Gyertyános his first senior gold medal.

The same crew of Kadler / Beé / Babella / Gyertyános went on to take the K4 200m gold medal at the 2005 World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia.

In 2006 they lost their 200m titles, finishing third at the European Championships at Račice, and second at the World Championships in Szeged.

Gyertyános is a member of the UTE Újpest club.
