Jane Poynter

Jane Poynter is an author, businesswoman and environmentalist. Poynter was one of the original crewmembers of Biosphere 2. Along with seven other individuals, Poynter was confined to the sealed environment for two years. Her preparation for life inside Biosphere 2 involved training to survive in the Australian Outback and onboard a concrete research boat in the Indian Ocean and Red Sea. She was a member of Biosphere 2 from inception and eventually managed the farm where the crew grew its food.

Poynter is President of Paragon Space Development Corporation, an aerospace firm that she co-founded with several engineers and fellow biospherian, Taber MacCallum, while inside Biosphere 2. Since leaving the project, she has had experiments flown on the International Space Station, the Russian Mir Space Station, the U.S. Space Shuttle and experimental modules being flown by Bigelow Aerospace [ [http://www.paragonsdc.com/customers.php Paragon Space Development Corporation ] ] . Currently, she and Paragon are developing life support systems for astronauts and Navy deep-sea divers. Poynter also started Yogi and Co., a multi-media production company. She has written numerous published articles as well as a book, "The Human Experiment: Two Years and Twenty Minutes Inside Biosphere 2".

Poynter discusses environmental issues through her writings and online at the International Leadership Forum blog.

Poynter currently resides in Tucson, Arizona with her husband, fellow biospherian and business partner, Taber MacCallum. Jane and Taber married a year after exiting Biosphere 2.
