Révolte des Bonnets Rouges (Red Caps revolt) of 1675.The name "Plouguernével" is typically Breton, "ploe" meaning "parish", "kêr" meaning "village" and "nevez" meaning "new". The name changed from "Ploekerneguell", which still can be seen on road signs.
