- Peter Jaffrey Wheatley
Peter Jaffrey Wheatley (Born,1921 in Cheshire: Died 12 May, 1997) was a British chemist, who published over 100 papers and 5 books on physical chemistry, crystallography and structural chemistry.
Early years
Wheatley was born in 1921. He was educated at King Edward VII School ( [http://nlc.oldedwardians.org.uk/corporis/cricket1st38-39.html photo] ) in
Sheffield , where he was Head Prefect in 1938/1940, Captain of cricket for 2 years and 1st XI footballer for 4; andThe Queen's College, Oxford , where he obtained a First in Chemistry, followed by a D.Phil as a Junior Research Fellow at Merton, working with Jack Linnett.Career
*1940-45 Joined the Royal Artillery as Bombardier; captured at the fall of Singapore, prisoner-of-war interned in Malaya.
*1946 Returned to Oxford as undergraduate
*1948 Junior Research Fellow at Merton
*1950 Lectureship in Chemistry atUniversity of Leeds
*1957 Monsanto in Zurich
*1966 Visiting Professor at Tucson
*1967 Lectureship in Physical Chemistry; elected to a Fellowship atQueens' College, Cambridge Publications
