Bhagwati Charan Verma

Bhagwati Charan Verma (भगवती चरण वर्मा) (August 30 1903 -October 5 1981), was one of the leading writers in Hindi. He wrote many novels, but his magnum opus was 'Chitralekha' (चित्रलेखा), which was made into two successful Hindi films, 1941 and 1964.

Biography

He work at Calcutta Film Corporation for a while, followed by editing a weekly magazine, titled 'Vichaar'. He also did screenwriting in Bombay, and later edited a Hindi daily 'Navjeevan'; and finally he started writing independently in 1957.

He remained the Hindi Advisor at All India Radio, Lucknow for a while, and later in 1978, he was nominated to the Upper House of Indian Parliament, Rajya Sabha [ [http://www.india9.com/i9show/Bhagwati-Charan-Verma-25261.htm Biography] www.india9.com.] , and died on October 5, 1981.
