- Postdated
In banking, postdated refers to
check s which have been written by the maker for a date in the future. In the United States postdated items are described in Article 3, Section 113 of theUniform Commercial Code . Postdated checks are often used in conjunction withpayday loan s.Many banks will honor postdated checks, even if they are deposited before the postdate. The only exception is when a business check (usually a loan check or a paycheck) has "Do Not Deposit Before xx/xx/xxxx" printed on the check.
In the
United Kingdom post-dated cheques/checks carry no legal weight and therefore can be cashed before the due date. However a bank can refuse to accept them if the post-date is spotted; if it isn't the payer has no right to take any form of legal action against the bank for letting the cheque be processed.ee also
