- James DeLaurier
James D. DeLaurier is an inventor and
professor emeritus of theUniversity of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies . His research team designed the firstmicrowave -powered aircraft, designed to be used as a high-altitude communications relay platform. His team, along with Jeremy Harris of the University of Illinois built the first engine-poweredornithopter , nicknamed Mr. Bill, and the first human-carrying ornithopter, called the Flapper. His laboratory also designed flapping-wingmicro air vehicle s modeled afterinsect andhummingbird flight. His research lab contained UTIAS's low-speedwind tunnel .He received his bachelor of science degree from the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and hisPhD fromStanford University .References
