- Guestward, Ho!
"Guestward, Ho!" was a
situation comedy which aired on the ABC network in the 1960-1961 television season. It was based on anovel of the same title byPatrick Dennis .The premise was that a
New York City family, the Hootens, had so tired of theurban lifestyle that they decided to leave it behind in favor of operating adude ranch inNew Mexico . They bought the place sight unseen, and upon arrival found it to be in need of considerably more work that they had been led to believe. The Hootens did, however, befriend the American Indian "Hawkeye" whose "trading post" was the only source of supplies in the ranch's vicinity. Hawkeye, played byJ. Carrol Naish , was a rather cynical Indian, who sold Indian-lookingtrinket s which had actually been mass-produced inAsia and frequently read "The Wall Street Journal ", seemingly in search of a way to buy the country and return it to its "rightful owners".The program ran for one season on Thursday evenings as the lead to "
The Donna Reed Show " and oppositeNBC 's "The Outlaws".Cast
