Kraft Foods manufacturing, best known for its nuts and theMr. Peanut icon that symbolizes them.Started by Italian
immigrants Amedeo Obici andMario Peruzzi inWilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania , in 1906, it was incorporated in 1908 as the Planter Nut & Chocolate Co. Its main products these days are processed nuts of various kinds. It is a division ofKraft Foods .In 2006, Planters celebrated its 100th anniversary.

According to the Planters web site, Mr. Peanut was created by first grader Antonio Gentile for a 1916 contest to design the company's brand icon. His design was perfected by a commercial artist and has changed over the years.
