Shinwari

Shinwari

The Shinwari (Urdu: شنواری ) are an ethnic Pashtun tribe of Afghanistan and of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. There is no longer any true political connection between the Shinwaris of the respective countries.

Among the greatest poets of the Pashto language in the 20th century was the late Ameer Hamza Shinwari, also known as "Hamza Baba" and "Father of the Ghazal".

ub-Tribes

The Shinwari tribe is made up of 4 sub tribes
#khugakhel divided to Fatmikhel, kandokhel, Ashaqkhel, Ashrafkhel, Basikhel, Shahikhel, Pasedkhel
#Mirdad Khel divided in to Ghanikhel, shaheedkhel

#Pero Khel
#Sheikhmal Khel divided to Talibkhel, Ghanikhel, Sharikhel.

A major portion of the Shinwari tribe is settled in the areas between Landi Kotal (Pakistan) and Jalalabad (Afghanistan). These Shinwaris are mostly traders and businessmen. There is, however, a significant minority of the tribe settled in Kohat, Pakistan (Jungle Khel), a settlement 60 km south of Peshawar. Some of the Jungle Khel Shinwaris have been noted politicians (Muhammad Zaman Khan, Nazir Khan, Shahbaz Gul), army officers (Qayyum Sher, Zafar Khan) and civil servants (Azam Khan, Israr Khan) in Pakistan.
