AppleCD was a range of early
SCSI -basedCD ROM drives forApple Macintosh personal computer s, manufactured and sold byApple Computer . Earlier AppleCD drives required aCD caddy in order to be used, while later models used a tray-loading mechanism. The original model introduced in1988 was simply called the AppleCD SC. Initially it included a fan, but in 1990, Apple removed it as it was unnecessary and attracted a large amount of dust onto the optical read head.
