Fryderyk Józef Moszyński (1738-1817) of
Nałęcz Coat of Arms was a noble ("szlachcic ") in thePolish-Lithuanian Commonwealth . He held the offices ofReferendary of Lithuania ,Great Secretary of Lithuania and Great Marshal of the Crown.A grandson of former
king of Poland ,August II the Strong , he was educated inSaxony . From 1766-1768 he was the member of Crown Treasury Commission, and from 1768 a vice-commander of theCadet Corps , a function he performed well, even donating some of his funds to theSzkoła Rycerska . However in 1792 he joined theTargowica Confederation , whose actions resulted in the fall of theConstitution of May 3 and theSecond Partition of Poland . In 1793 he was a member of commission investigating abanking crisis in the Commonwealth, and the member of thePermanent Council in charge ofpolice . In the aftermath of the Warsaw Uprising during theKościuszko Uprising , he was imprisoned by the Polish revolutionaries. On 28 June 1794angry mob stormed the prison with the intention ofhanging many of the people considered traitors, Moszyński was saved by the intervention ofIgnacy Wyssogota Zakrzewski , although many others - likebishop Ignacy Jakub Massalski or princeAntoni Stanisław Czetwertyński-Światopełk - were hanged that day.References
