Canadore College is a college located in North Bay, Ontario, Canada. It was founded in 1967 as a campus of Sudbury's Cambrian College, and became an independent institution in 1972. Canadore has a full-time enrollment of 3500 students and is well known for its popular summer arts program, "Artsperience". There are three main campuses, the Aviation Campus, Commerce Court and the Education Centre, as well as a satellite campus in Parry Sound. The Education Centre is situated on a convert|650|acre|km2|sing=on wooded escarpment.

Programs

Canadore offers more than 80 full-time postsecondary programs, focused in several key academic sectors: aviation, business, communication arts, health sciences, hospitality and tourism, recreation and leisure, human services, information technology, law and justice, skilled trades, apprenticeship, artsperience and preparatory studies.

Canadore's new programs for 2007 were sport conditioning, recreation therapy and fine crafts and design, and a new crime scene investigation program will be offered in fall 2008.

History

Canadore College was founded as a trade school in 1967, during the formation of Ontario’s college system. Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology were established on May 21, 1965. It is on a Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology.The school was founded in 1967 as part of a provincial initiative to create many such institutions to provide career-oriented diploma and certificate courses, as well as continuing education programs to Ontario communities.

The Wall

The Wall Bar & Grillhouse is owned and operated by the Canadore Students Representative Council and the Nipissing University Students Union. Located in the Student Centre at the College Drive Campus, this 700-capacity student centre features a sports bar, lounge, is host to bands, entertainment and comedy acts throughout the year.

ports and Recreation

Canadore athletes (Panthers) compete at the varsity level in men's and women's Fastball, Volleyball, and Indoor Soccer. There are Basketball and Hockey teams at the extramural level. Snofest is the annual winter carnival, leagues, tournaments, and activity days.

Buildings and Features

There is a gym, fitness trails, and walking trails. Canadore shares campus facilities with Nipissing University. There is a campus at the Jack Garland Airport in North Bay for their aviation programs; and a campus on Commerce Court in North Bay where the Theatre Arts, Police Foundations, Computer Programming and other related programs are conducted.

* Cafeteria: Full-course meals and short-order lunches are available, along with Pizza Pizza, Mr. Sub and Tim Horton's. Access to microwaves is available.
* The Wall Bar & Grillhouse: A student operated restaurant/bar with a full roadhouse menu.
* Tim Horton's: Two on-campus locations
* The Canadore Room: lunches and dinners are offered at reasonable prices within this dining room, which is operated as part of the Hospitality/ Tourism program.
* Pal's Variety: An on-campus convenience store which offers food and snack items.

Canadore students run the Panther Radio station.

Residences

Canadore has two residences, a town-house style residence located directly beside the Education Centre (College Drive Campus), and a new apartment-style residence at the bottom of College Drive. Both residences provide single rooms.

Canadore’s town-house residence offers accommodation for 350 students and the apartment-style residence houses 146 students. The townhouses have six bedrooms, a four-piece and a two-piece washroom, a kitchen, a large combined dining and living room area and limited storage space.The bedrooms are furnished with a bed, desk, bookshelf, dresser, full-length mirror, study desk lamp, wall-to-wall carpeting and a closet.

Shared facilities include the kitchen, which is equipped with a fridge and stove, and the dining room, which is furnished with a table and six chairs. Two couches, a coffee table, two chairs and a lamp are also provided in order to make each living room.

The apartment-style residence, also referred to as Lower Residence, opened in September 2004. This new facility features six floors of four bedroom suites. A laundry room, mailboxes, a games room with a pool table, and assembly room can be found on the main floor. A lounge with a television and couches can be found on every other floor of this six-storey building. The room features a single bed, a desk with chair, shelving with space to hang clothes and a telephone. The suite includes two full bathrooms featuring a bath and shower, a common area with a television with cable, chairs and a coffee table, and a dining table with four chairs. A shared kitchen with cabinets, sink, stove and refrigerator is also in the common area.

Residence Assistants

Residence Assistants are senior students live right in residence and will help students with academic or personal problems. If they can’t help, residence assistance will refer students to someone who can.
