Bietigheim Enz Valley Bridge

The Bietigheim Enz Valley Bridge is a well-known German railway bridge over the Enz vallay at Bietigheim-Bissingen and one of the landmarks of the city. It was built from 1851-1853 as part of the railway line Bietigheim Bruchsal under the direction of Karl Etzel. The Bietigheim Enz Valley Bridge is a bricked stone construction with two elbow rows. The viaduct is approx.. 287 meters long, approx.. 33 meters high and has 21 elbows, which stretch themselves over the Enz valley. Six elbows were destroyed at the end of the Second World War; from that afterwards beside it an auxiliary bridge, which was opened on 1 August 1945 was erected, from which are still some foundations visible. The damaged columns were again developed later, one of the elbows had to be locked completely with concrete. Directly beside the Bietigheim Enz Valley Bridge there is the festival area of Bietigheim Bissingens, on which at the beginning of Septembers the Bietigheim Horse Market, a beer festival, takes place annually.
