extinct genus ofcockroach -likeBlattoptera ns, a group ofinsect s ancestral to cockroaches, mantid s andtermite s.Archimylacris lived on the warm
swamp yforest floor s ofNorth America andEurope 300 million years ago , in the LateCarboniferous times. Like modern cockroaches, this insect had a large head shield with long curved antennae, or feelers, and folded wings. To a modern observer, it would likely appear as a giant cockroach with a "tail" (anovipositor ) in the females. Presumably their habits would be cockroach-like too, scurrying along theundergrowth eating anything edible, possibly falling prey toamphibian s and very earlyreptile s.
