- Sudhagad
Sudhagad is a fort situated near a village called Pachapur near Pali in
Maharashtra . The height of this fort is around 2030 feet and is well protected by steep cliffs. Due to its qualities, Sudhagad was proposed toChhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as the capital ofHindavi Swaraj . Shivaji Maharaj visited Sudhagad to survey it, but instead chose Raigad because of its central location. Sudhagad, like Raigad, is a huge fort.An easy trek leads to Mahadarwaja, Pant Sachiv wada, Takmak tok, Bhoraidevi temple, Shiv temple, etc. There are lakes on the top of Sudhagad. It is said that BhoraiDevi is the presiding deity of the PantSachivs of Bhor village. That is why Sudhagad was earlier known as Bhorapgad. Later the Marathas changed the name to Sudhagad.
The best time to trek Sudhagad is during the rainy season as the whole region offers a spectacular view with picturesque surroundings. From the top, other forts like Sarasgad, Korigad, Dhangad, Taila-Baila etc. can be seen.
The book 'Sudgagad Darshan', written by Mr. Suresh Potdar, contains information about Sudhagad and its surrounding region.
