Stoke Brunswick School is a small
co-educational day andboarding private school for children aged 3 to 13 years old situated inAshurst Wood ,West Sussex , near the town ofEast Grinstead . The current headmaster is Richard Taylor, who took over the place of Mark Ellerton in2005 . The school currently has 138 pupils.History
The oldest wing of the building dates back to the 14th century, where the headmaster currently resides. The building was originally situated in Cumbria, but in the 17th century, it was transported piece by piece to its current location, where it became an all-boys school. The school became
co-educational in 1964.Grounds
The school is situated in the idyllic setting of the Sussex countryside. There is 30 acres of grounds for the children to play in. 11 acres of these 30 are mainly woodland, in which the children play at breaktimes in summer.
Facilities
In the school there are 28 classrooms. There is a chemistry lab, a library, a newly refurbished gymnasium, a chapel, a swimming pool, 8 playing fields, a 9-hole golf course, extensive
dyslexia facilities, a pre-prep school and a network of computers for teachers and pupils alike to use.Music
The school enjoys a huge reputation as being one of the most musical schools in the area. The current head of music is Caroline Long, who took over from Sue Barber in 2006. She teaches the students using the Kodály method. The school choir often gets to the semi-finals of Children's Choir of the Year, and has participated in Glyndebourne operatic productions numerous times. All of the pupils are encouraged to learn a musical instrument and sing. The successful drum group has performed at nummerous prestigious locations, and have reached the finals of the
Music for Youth competition at theRoyal Festival Hall for the past two consecutive years.port
Stoke Brunswick offers a wide range of sports and encourages participation whatever the individual's ability. The school teams play other local school and often win the matches. Even though the teams are picked on individual merit, the school holds swimming galas and sports days to get all of the students involved. The pupils at the school play various sports including: Rugby, Hockey, Tennis, Netball,
