Touria Oulehri is a
Moroccan author.Oulehri is a teacher at the École Normale Supérieure in
Meknès . She has published articles on the subject of literary criticism as well as on both francophoneMoroccan authors and authors of the 16th century.Her first two novels, "La répudiée" (Éditions Afrique-Orient, 2001) and "La chambre des nuits blanches" (Marsam, 2002), have been well-received.
The protagonist of "La répudiée" is Niran, a modern young woman, repudiated for being childless. After fifteen years of marriage, under social and family pressure, her husband leaves her to marry a younger and fertile woman. The book treats an issue of particular concern in contemporary Moroccan rural communities.
"La chambre des nuits blanches" tells the story of a woman who withdraws from her surroundings and reassesses the past, in an effort to comprehend the direction of her life.
