Cannock Wood

Cannock Wood is a village in Staffordshire, England. Situated near Cannock and Lichfield and north of Burntwood.Cannock Wood is approximately 25 miles north of Birmingham city centre.

Cannock Wood makes up part of Cannock Chase. Which is a recognised Area of outstanding Natural beauty.

Its mainly residential area is interspersed with open areas including various parks and public footpaths through the local countryside. The village hosts tourist attractions including Castle Ring, an ancient fort, and Nun's Well. Cannock Wood also hosts several pubs, The Park Gate, The Windmill and The Redmoore. There is also a village hall, a children's play area, a cricket club and a hairdressers.

Gentleshaw, a neighboring village, has a primary school where most of the children in Cannock Wood and neighbouring places such as Hazelslade, Prospect Village, Gentleshaw and even some in the nearby town of Burntwood aged between 4 and 11 attend.

Cannock Wood has a general store which has previously closed twice due to lack of support, it re-opened for business for the third time on Tuesday 28th August 2007. As of July 2008, the store is currently open for a limited period each day after a lack of financial support forced it to reduce daily opening hours.

The village is served by bus numbers 15 (operated by Green Bus), on the Prospect Village - Lichfield line, and 62 (Arriva) on the Cannock - Hednesford - Prospect Village - Burntwood - Lichfield line.

Cannock Wood and the surrounding district are twinned with Datteln, Germany and Western Springs, Illinois, United States.

The overwhelming majority of people living in Cannock Wood are from White British backgrounds.

Some people see Cannock Wood as a suburb of Burntwood. The village is just under 1 mile north of Burntwood. Other people think of it as an area in the town of Rugeley, as some addresses in Cannock Wood have the Rugeley postal code. However, it is a separate village and is not an area in either of these towns.

Nearby places are: Burntwood, Gentleshaw, Cannock, Lichfield, Rugeley, Hednesford, Hazelslade and Prospect Village.
