Rabbi Jacqueline "Jackie" Tabick (born
1948 ) is theRabbi at North West SurreySynagogue , a constituent of theMovement for Reform Judaism . She was the first female rabbi in Britain.Early life and training
Born in
Dublin , Jackie Tabick spent most of her early life living inEngland . After readingMedieval History for her degree atUniversity College London , she enrolled at theLeo Baeck College where she completed her rabbinical training. She graduated to become Britain's first woman rabbi in 1975.The same year, she married American rabbinical student Larry Tabick who is now the rabbi at Shir Hayim Reform community in Hampstead. They have three children, Mikki, Roni, and Jeremy.
Rabbinical life
Starting as the assistant rabbi at
West London Synagogue under RabbiHugo Gryn , she left in 1998 and became the rabbi of North West Surrey Synagogue as has been there ever since.She was vice-president of the
Movement for Reform Judaism . She is the chairman of theWorld Congress of Faiths , an executive of theInterfaith Network and a patron ofJCORE .Family life
Rabbi Jackie Tabick has been happily married to Rabbi Larry Tabick for 33 years. He was born in
New York in1947 and came to England to study at theLeo Baeck College in the early 1970s. Larry has written a book of poetry entitled "Growing Into Your Soul" (though it is now unavailable from Amazon and can only be bought directly from him).Mikki studied
