The routes are operated on a public service obligation with the Norwegian Government.

History

The first airport opened in Båtsfjord as part of the construction of a regional airport network in Northern Norway in 1978. But because of safety regulations a new airport had to be constructed, and the new airport opened on October 29 1999. The old Båtsfjord Airport was the last airport to be serviced with Twin Otter aircraft by Widerøe, all other regional lines switching to Dash 8 in the mid 1990s.
