Sergey Verlin

Sergey Verlin

Sergey Verlin (Сергей Верлин), born 12 October 1974 in Voronezh, is a retired Russian, flatwater canoeist. He won five World Championship kayak gold medals during the mid-nineties. At the 1996 Olympics he won a bronze medal with Russia's K-4 1000m team.

After retiring he went into politics, standing as a candidate for the United Russia party of Vladimir Putin. Since 2004 he has been a coach of the Russian national kayak squad.
