Bruce Weaver

Bruce Weaver

Kenneth Bruce Weaver was born on January 18, 1956 in Lancaster, New Brunswick, Canada, as the only child of Ken and Shirley (Burgess) Weaver. He is a 1974 graduate of Saint John High School and a major media personality in and around Saint John, New Brunswick.

While in high school, he began to take an interest in radio, participating in his school's radio show, broadcast on the University of New Brunswick, Saint John radio station CRSJ. Upon graduating high school, Bruce got involved with the campus radio station once again, and so impressed the local bigwigs that in 1976 he was hired by CFBC News which was a contemporary pop/rock station. While at CFBC, in 1977, he met high school student and newshound Steve Murphy who later would become anchor of CTV Atlantic's evening news. The night that Elvis Presley died, Bruce and Steve were the only two in the station, and had to cover it alone. Bruce and Steve still get together each December to host the annual Christmas Daddies Telethon on CTV Atlantic.

In 1978 he moved to CHSJ Radio, which was at that time 1150AM, and became the Afternoon Drive Host and Music Director. During his tenure at CHSJ, Bruce also became involved with CHSJ-TV as a part-time weather forcaster on the local news program "Evening Report". In 1979 he was picked up by the CFBC station, FM98 and CFBC itself. He did Afternoon Drive and Programmed the station until 1991 when he was hired by K-100 to do their morning show. His "Fun Phone" feature would help to make him one of the best-known names in New Brunswick radio. Along with Tom Young, Andrew Cromwell, Mandy MacDonald and a host of others, they made K-100 the top-rated station in its market, with an enormous lead over the remainder of the stations in the city. He also held the position of Program Director for several years at K-100.

However, in 2002, he quit his job at K-100 due to conflicting interest with the management, and was hired by Acadia Broadcasting to be Program Director of their stations The Wave and Country 94. Within six months of his switching stations, the Wave became the #1 station in the region, and Country 94 was close behind at #2. As of 2006, Country 94 is #1 in ratings, and the Wave is #2. Bruce currently hosts the midday show from noon to 4:00 PM on the Wave, and is Program Director for both stations.

He married Jane Hopkins in 1983 and has had three sons with her. Christopher Bruce, Jeffrey Daniel, and Matthew Kenneth Robert.
