Paul Curran (born 1981) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Mullinahone and with the Tipperary senior inter-county team. He plays in the full-back position.

Early life

Paul Curran was born in Mullinahone, County Tipperary in 1981. He was educated locally and from an early age he showed a great interest in the game of hurling. Curran later attended the Waterford Institute of Technology where he played on the college’s senior hurling team. He captained the side to a Fitzgibbon Cup victory in 2003. Curran has also played underage soccer with Moyglass United.

Playing career

Club

Curran plays his club hurling with the Mullinahone club in Tipperary. He had some success at underage levels and won a county championship medal in 2002.

Inter-county

Curran joined the Tipperary minor hurling panel in the late 1990s, winning a Munster medal in 1999. He later played on the county under-21 team but had little success at this level. Curran made his senior inter-county debut in a National Hurling League game against Cork in 2001. Tipp later went on to win the league and Curran collected his first senior winners’ medal as a substitute. Later that same year he collected a brace of Munster and All-Ireland medals as a substitute again. Curran made his senior championship debut in 2002 when Tipperary played Offaly. Since then he has won one National League title, and played in three Munster finals, winning at the third attempt when Tipp beat Clare in Limerick in 2008.
