San Gabriel Mission High School, the "school with a mission," is an all-girl's
Catholic high school located on the grounds of the fourth mission of California, which was founded in 1771 by theFranciscan Padres and often used by FatherJunipero Serra as his headquarters. It is located in theRoman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles .The
Dominican Sisters of San Jose , who arrived in California in 1876, have administered and taught at Mission since its founding in 1949. It was originally co-institutional, meaning that there were two schools under one roof, one for boys and one for girls. Each had its own principal. A few classes were co-educational.San Gabriel Mission High School, a Catholic parish secondary school, commits itself to the mission of Christan education by the establishment of a community dedicated to the pursuit of the Dominican
charism of "the search for Truth together." The school offers college preparatory and general academic programs to young women of diverse ethnic backgrounds who meet its academic and behavioral requirements and who strive toward their potential.ASB / Student Council / Clubs
The Associated Student Body of San Gabriel Mission High School is a democracy based on parliamentary procedure that consists of five spots, and also works in conjunction with the Student Council of the school. Student Council (SC) is a collaboration of all club presidents and class boards in the school. Each Thursday they hold a meeting and go through certain orders of business around school that need their attention. The ASB adviser is Ms. Alma Stone, who is also the Activities Director.
Just last year, a new addition to San Gabriel Mission High School was added. The usual Snow Ball was turned into Homecoming. Homecoming used to be a nonformal dance, but was turned into a formal dance. On record, the first formal Homecoming dance was on January 28, 2006. The first Homecoming Queen was Lucy Garcia, Class of 2006. The second Homecoming Queen of 2007 was Alex Estrada, Class of 2007. Prom Queen 2007 was Yvonne Bacio, Class of 2007.
